Where intelligent technology meets surgical expertise
Experience the next level of precision in total knee replacement with the ROSA® Knee System by Zimmer Biomet. ROSA (Robotic Surgical Assistant) combines advanced robotic technology with the surgeon’s expertise to support personalised surgical planning, precise bone cuts, accurate implant positioning, and real-time assessment of knee alignment and soft-tissue balance.
The system helps the surgeon tailor the procedure to your unique knee anatomy, supporting a controlled surgical approach while preserving important anatomical structures wherever appropriate. The goal is simple: a well-balanced knee, confident movement, and a smoother return to daily activities.

What makes ROSA different
- A 3D model of your knee can be created from a set of X-rays, usually without a CT scan.
- Trackers tell the system exactly where your knee is in space during surgery.
- Live data on alignment, range of motion and ligament balance before the implant is fixed.
- The surgeon stays in control; the robot moves only when directed.
How ROSA works
- Pre-operative planning using your unique knee anatomy Your X-rays and measurements build a personalised plan for implant size, position and alignment.
- Precise bone cuts with robotic guidance The robotic arm positions the cutting guide exactly where the plan says, adjusting in real time as the knee moves.
- Accurate implant positioning Implant placement is checked against the plan before it is fixed.
- Real-time assessment of knee balance and alignment Soft-tissue balance and range of motion are measured through the full arc of bending, so the knee is stable and natural.
The result
Improved implant positioning compared with conventional knee replacement in published studies.
Ligament balance measured, not estimated.
A controlled, minimally invasive approach.
Healthy tissue protected wherever possible.
Helps support a faster recovery and range of motion.
X-ray based planning instead of a CT scan in most cases.

What is ROSA robotic knee replacement?
ROSA (Robotic Surgical Assistant) is a robotic knee system made by Zimmer Biomet. It combines robotic technology with the surgeon’s expertise to support personalised planning, precise bone cuts, accurate implant positioning and real-time assessment of knee alignment and soft-tissue balance during total knee replacement.
Does the ROSA robot perform the surgery by itself?
No. ROSA assists the surgeon; it does not operate independently. Dr. R. K. Singh plans and performs the operation, and the robot moves only under his direction, giving him data and guidance at each step.
What does “soft-tissue balance” mean and why does it matter?
The ligaments around the knee must be equally tight on both sides through the whole range of movement. ROSA measures this during surgery so the surgeon can fine-tune implant position before fixing it. A well-balanced knee tends to feel more stable and natural when you walk, climb stairs or bend.
Do I need a CT scan for ROSA knee replacement?
Usually not. ROSA can build a 3D model of your knee from a set of X-rays, or work without pre-operative images using data collected during surgery. Zimmer Biomet notes this means less radiation exposure than CT-based robotic knee replacement.
How long will I stay in hospital after ROSA knee replacement?
Most patients stay a few days, during which physiotherapy starts and you begin walking with support. The exact length of stay depends on your recovery and whether one or both knees are replaced.
When can I walk, climb stairs and drive after ROSA surgery?
Most patients walk with a walker within a day, manage stairs with support before discharge, move to a stick in the following weeks and return to most daily activities by about six weeks. Driving is usually possible once you can bend the knee comfortably and react quickly, which your surgeon will confirm at follow-up.
Is ROSA better than MISSO?
Both are advanced robotic systems with the same goal of precise, well-balanced knee replacement. Dr. R. K. Singh chooses the system that suits your knee anatomy, deformity and surgical plan. See the MISSO and ROSA comparison.
