Knee Arthritis Treatment in Kanpur

Not every arthritic knee needs surgery. At Globus Hospital, treatment follows the stage of your arthritis, from physiotherapy and injections to robotic knee replacement when the joint is truly worn out.

Arthritis & joint pain

The right treatment at the right time

Osteoarthritis is the most common reason for knee pain in adults over 45, and one of the most common reasons people across Uttar Pradesh visit an orthopaedic surgeon. Early treatment can slow its progress and keep you active for longer. When the joint is badly damaged, a precisely performed knee replacement can relieve pain and restore movement. Dr. R. K. Singh and the team at Globus Hospital in Kakadeo explain your stage clearly and recommend surgery only when it is the right choice.

Stage-wise treatment of knee arthritis

StageWhat you may noticeTypical treatment
Stage 1 · EarlyMinor cartilage wear, occasional pain.Weight control, strengthening exercises, activity changes, supplements where advised.
Stage 2 · MildPain after activity, mild stiffness; X-ray shows early narrowing.Structured physiotherapy, medicines for flare-ups, knee support or brace, footwear advice.
Stage 3 · ModerateFrequent pain, swelling, difficulty with stairs and squatting. All of the above plus PRP or viscosupplementation injections where suitable; review of alignment.
Stage 4 · AdvancedBone-on-bone, constant pain, deformity, limited walking.Knee replacement, often robotic (MISSO or ROSA), with physiotherapy-led recovery.

Your treatment depends on examination and X-rays, not stage alone.

Arthritis treatment: FAQs

Can knee arthritis be treated without surgery?

Yes, in the early and moderate stages. Weight management, strengthening physiotherapy, activity changes, medicines and injections such as PRP or viscosupplementation can reduce pain and improve movement for many patients. Surgery is considered when the joint is badly worn and these measures no longer help.

What are the early signs of knee arthritis?

Pain after walking or climbing stairs, morning stiffness that eases with movement, swelling, a grinding or crackling feeling, and difficulty sitting cross-legged or squatting.

At what stage is knee replacement needed?

Usually in advanced (grade 4) arthritis, when X-rays show bone rubbing on bone, pain is constant or disturbs sleep, the leg is bending out of shape, and daily activities are limited despite other treatment.

Are PRP and gel (viscosupplementation) injections useful?

They can relieve pain and stiffness for some patients with early to moderate arthritis, often for several months. They do not regrow worn cartilage, and they are less helpful in advanced arthritis. Your doctor will advise whether they suit your knee.

Which exercises help knee arthritis?

Quadriceps and hip strengthening, straight-leg raises, gentle cycling, walking on level ground and swimming are usually helpful. Avoid deep squatting and running on hard surfaces when the knee is painful. Our physiotherapists design a programme for your stage.

Is rheumatoid arthritis treated differently?

Yes. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory condition that needs medicines to control the disease, along with joint protection and physiotherapy. Joint replacement is considered when a joint is badly damaged.

Do you see arthritis patients from outside Kanpur?

Yes. Patients regularly come from Unnao, Lucknow, Kanpur Dehat, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Etawah, Hamirpur, Orai and other nearby towns. See areas we serve.
